Job Description:

At GDIT, people are our differentiator. Our work depends on a Senior HPC Operations Manager joining our team to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputer Systems (WCOSS).

WCOSS provides NOAA the operational High-Performance Computing (HPC) resources essential to process sophisticated numerical models used to predict and understand atmospheric and oceanic phenomena for weather and climate operational use. Operating 24/7, the 10-year WCOSS program will deliver significant computational capability that will evolve over time to keep pace with NOAA’s growing environmental modeling needs.

We are looking for individuals to join GDIT’s team to deploy, operate and support leading-edge HPC technologies including HPE/Cray Shasta and other architectures for WCOSS.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Leading and managing a team of HPC System & Storage Administrators.

  • Supporting operational standups with customer and staff.

  • Monitoring and evaluating HPC systems performance.

  • Coordinating and collaborating with customer’s scientific teams.

  • Working closely with the Lead System Architect in planning for system enhancements and upgrades.

  • Resolving key technical issues that impact customer workload.

  • Providing technical input on new proposals and system architectures

  • Some travel required for facility support and training opportunities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 5+ years of HPC systems management experience.

  • US CITIZENSHIP Required

  • Able to get a Public Trust Clearance

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive large-scale HPC systems management experience including OS(Linux) , interconnect, batch scheduling, parallel filesystems and security.

  • Experience managing large, geographically diverse technical teams supporting HPC hardware and software for scientific applications.

  • Experience identifying and troubleshooting issues; and developing corrective action plans.

  • Experience with deploying enhancements to large operational systems/clusters.

  • Experience interacting with vendor/subcontractor technical support groups.

  • Experience in public presentations and writing technical papers.

  • Experience in working across organizations within a company.

  • Proven and effective leadership and communication skills.

The likely salary range for this position is $170,000 - $230,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
